EMDR is an acronym for ‘Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing’. EMDR is an effective and efficient psychological treatment method developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, a clinical psychologist in the 1980s. As a Senior Research Fellow at the Mental Research Institute in California, she published the first research data to support the benefits of the therapy in 1989.
The EMDR UK and Ireland Association is a professional association, of which we are a regional group, where EMDR practitioners and EMDR researchers seek the highest standards for the clinical use of EMDR. EMDR is an accepted psychotherapy by leading mental health organizations throughout the world for the treatment of a variety of symptoms and conditions. This website has been constructed to provide information to the EMDR community particularly those who work and/or live in the West Midlands.
