The Group & Our Aims:

• We aim to professionally support one another regarding our EMDR children/adolescence practice.

• Participants need to presently be using EMDR with children/adolescence.

• We aim to share confidentially from our practices- our successes, our questions, and our client conundrums so that we are more competent and better able to help children/teens & their parents/carers.

• We aim to discuss CPD as related to EMDR with Children/adolescence.

We have been meeting for about 3 years for Peer Supervision about every 6 weeks at Worcester University 10:30 am -12:25 pm in the Pear Tree Café, in the centre of the University complex.

Our next meeting is Friday 2nd March & 27th April 2018.

3.   Eating Disorders

EMDR Special Interest Group for Eating Disorders

Eating Disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating

disorder and eating disorder not otherwise specified) are serious and complex mental health problems which can be hard to treat.

Eating disorders have a devastating and disabling effect on all aspects of the person’s functioning.  This includes significant impairment to the individual’s physical, psychological, emotional and social well-being.

Sadly, eating disorders have the highest rate of mortality of all mental health problems and a number of individuals die as a result of starvation, cardiac arrest or suicide.  A life lived within the grip of an eating disorder is unbearable.

Treatment is complex and challenging and needs to be multifaceted.  Managing medical risk is a priority. Responses to treatment are complicated by the fact that clients are usually highly ambivalent about making changes to their eating disordered behaviours.  Often co-morbid psychopathology is present. This is in addition to the impairments resulting from a state of starvation and dangerous results of purging behaviours (laxatives and self-induced vomiting).

The aims of the Special Interest Group are to:

1.     Create  a forum  for EMDR clinicians to  share their expertise with each other

2.     Foster links to offer support, advice and cross referral

3.     Create a forum for discussion of current issues, recent developments and difficult cases

4.     Promote learning of new skills and collaborative research

5. OCD

6. EMDR & Depression

There is growing evidence for the use of treating depression with EMDR particularly where the client has experienced trauma at some point in their life. Unprocessed trauma can eventually manifest in often severe depression.

I am proposing to set up a Special Interest Group for anyone interested in :

Sharing good practice in this area.

Case discussions (informal peer supervision).

Discussing research evidence- reviewing journals.

Networking opportunities & mutual support.

I can offer the use of a meeting room in the centre of Worcester on a Saturday morning –every 8 weeks (negotiable).

Please contact me if you would like to be included.

7.   Brain Spotting Group

The SIG Group is designed to raise awareness of BSP and its’ application to client populations who present with a wide range psychological issues including PTSD, Anxiety, Adjustment Disorders, Pain, OCD Depression etc. BSP was discovered by David Grand in 2003 and is now actively used  internationally in excess of 8,000 trained Therapists.

” Brainspotting (BSP) is a psychotherapy approach that uses the field of vision to locate eye positions that correlate to inner neural and emotional experience.  Once located, these eye positions or Brainspots, with eye-gaze ,can lead to fast and effective healing. Brainspotting activates neurobiological healing in the non-verbal and sub-cortical areas of the brain combining  dual attunement and focused mindfulness to accomplish a full, comprehensive discharge of activation held in the brain and body. The therapist utilises Dual Attunement:  a combination of relational and neurobiological attunement.  This is an open, inclusive model where therapists can make use of their prior trainings and practice wisdom”.   David Grand.
